Clinical Love

I'm doing my clinical in a somewhat local emergency department and am LOVING it! My preceptor is fabulous, too. I've got 4 more days (shifts), and I'm going to miss it when I'm done! I've finally been able to get some blood dray and IV experience, which has been great. Haven't done tons of IV's yet, but have done some that have "worked." Phew!

I've seen quite a bit of stuff that has kind of "shocked" me this semester (while at clinical). "Elderly" IV drug abusers (still using), as well as the more mild psych issues that don't make you shake your head until the person is almost done with their treatments.

The thing I appreciate the most about the semester is how helpful and supportive my preceptor is! She's always asking if I have any questions, and she likes to look stuff up on the internet when our conversations go in the direction of "I'm not sure why this is the way it is..." I LOVE that! She's also understanding my my work background and that my skill-set is expected to be different than hers. So, if she asks if I know about this or that, or if I know how to do this or that, and I respond "no," she teaches me and never ever gives off vibes that make me feel badly.

Emergency nursing - never the same shift twice!
